Q: What software do I need to install in order to view the tax maps and parcel owner lists?
The tax maps are provided in Autodesk’s Drawing Web Format (DWF).
In order to view these files, a DWF browser plug-in or software must be installed on your computer.
See the Home Page for links to this software.
The parcel owner lists are provided in PDF format. In order to view these files the Adobe Acrobat Reader must be installed on your machine.
Q: Why is the extension .picx instead of .dwf?
The .picx extension should be processed on our server and sent out as a DWF file, which is received by your browser. The browser then opens the file using the appropriate plug-in, if available. For Mac users, you may need to save the file to your computer, and rename the .picx extension to .dwf before opening.
Q: How do you interact with the map?

There are really only five buttons on the Express Viewer toolbar that should be used when viewing and printing maps. These are:
Print Button – allows you to print a portion or the entire map
Pan Button – allows you to move around to different portions of the map
Zoom – allows you to interactively zoom in/out by holding down the left mouse button or scrolling with a mouse wheel.
Zoom Rectangle – allows you to zoom in to a portion of a map by drawing a rectangular zoom box.
Fit To Window – Fits and centers the entire map into the view window.
Q: Can I print the map to scale?
Yes, the entire map or portions of the map can be printed to scale provided you have a large enough printing device or are willing to have the map print to scale over several smaller sheets. See the screenshot below.

Q: Who can I contact if I have additional questions relating to tax maps or this website?
Questions about the information on the tax maps or parcel lists should be directed to the Holmes County Tax Map Office at (330) 674-6631.Questions or comments about the technical operation of the website should be directed to Erik Parker, GIS Director at
evParker@co.holmes.oh.us.
Q: Internet Explorer blocks the maps from appearing and instead shows a blank, black screen. How do I fix this?
A setting needs changed when Internet Explorer blocks the file and the maps load with a black screen. You must allow active content to run in files on your computer. Follow the steps below to change the setting:
- In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list.
- Select the Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box, and then click APPLY. Click OK..
Q: How should I print the maps and owner name lists?
Always use the print button on the Express Viewer tool bar or the Acrobat Reader tool bar when attempting to print the content on your screen. DO NOT use the print button on the Internet Explorer. DO NOT choose Print from the Internet Explorer File dropdown menu. Using any print function from Internet Explorer will result in a distorted map print out.
